Foundation training graduation in partnership with AlQantara Center in Maan
Mercy Corps, in partnership with the Al-Qantara Center for Human Resources Development and AMIDEAST Jordan, within the “Nubader: Youth Activism Beyond Borders” project, held the foundation training graduation for a group of youth workers in this project, on Thursday, June 3. The graduation was attended by the U.S. Embassy representatives in Amman; Ms. Alison Davis and Lina Salah, the Director of Al Qantara Center, Mr. Rakan Al Rowad, and the Deputy Country Director of Mercy Corps in Jordan, Mr. Arthur Molenaar.
The foundation training, which ran from May 23 to June 3, covered topics like profound stress and attunement, adolescent and youth developmental needs, social and emotional learning, child protection and gender in order to empower youth workers to provide psychosocial support to young people in safe environments.
Mr. Rakan Al-Rowad, Director of Al-Qantara Center, highlighted the importance of working with adolescent groups on activities and programs that contribute to the development of their skills, creativity, and protect them from various risks. He further stressed on the need for activating the engagement of young people in various fields of economic, social and political life. He said “in light of the demographic opportunity, as Jordanian society is a young society, the majority of its population is from young people, especially in the current difficult economic conditions that young people are going through.”
Arthur Molenaar, Deputy Country Director of Mercy Corps, indicated the organization's relentless pursuit of providing participatory solutions through the continuous partnership with government agencies and local communities in persistently supporting youth-led programs in local communities. He further referred to the role of international donors in Jordan's support, especially the American Embassy in Jordan, which funded this project.
“Nubader: Youth Activism beyond Borders” project which is being implemented by Mercy Corps in partnership with Al-Qantra center and AMIDEAST in Jordan, comes as a gift from the United States of America, under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Culture. The project focuses on working with male and female adolescents from the 12 to 18 age group, youth, and caregivers of parents living in Ma'an, with the aim to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Jordan through youth civic engagement programming that highlights shared values, promotes multiculturalism, and builds positive civic engagement.
